I’m a big fan of meta fiction, especially when it involves bringing a student reader into the story. With William Shakespeare: Poet, Playwright, Time Traveler, I was brutally honest with some editorial practices I was experiencing at the time. In the first few lines of the story, I wrote about how I was late on a deadline to Copy Room and was at my wits end trying to come up with a Shakespeare story for the issue when I used my friend’s time machine to go back and talk to the Bard himself. What ensues is a lot of educational, historical background on Shakespeare as well as a trippy jaunt through time.
I also used this story as a launching pad to READ’s social media theater experiment of Much Ado About Nothing.LAUNCH PROJECT
